Internet –> Grid

Blogged under Technology, Main by Mike on Monday 14 April 2008 at 1:01 pm

“The scientists who pioneered (the Internet) have now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds.” “The Grid could also provide the kind of power needed to transmit holographic images; allow instant online gaming with hundreds of thousands of players; and offer high-definition video telephony for the price of a local call.” Article here. - Thanks Laura

Google: disruptive technology?

Blogged under Technology, Main by Mike on Monday 14 April 2008 at 12:58 pm

Google’s potential role in the future as it relates to traditional IT departments and more. “Google’s information security will be a political issue worldwide by the end of the year in 2010.”

Finally

Blogged under Technology, Main by Mike on Friday 11 April 2008 at 11:36 am

I finally passed the last MCSE upgrade exam this morning! Been trying here and there for the last two years. Good thing too, cuz they are retiring it in May. If I didn’t get it by then, I’d have to start all over with all seven tests. That is, if I cared that much…

Wikipedia

I edited my first Wikipedia article yesterday. I changed what times the show ‘Cheap Seats‘ airs on ESPN Classic. Very empowering, even though I’ve had this blog for, what, six years now?

“Facebook finished?”

Blogged under Technology, Main by Mike on Wednesday 27 February 2008 at 10:40 pm

Interesting post about Facebook’s future. “One of the biggest complaints was the pointless garbage generated in bulk by applications–someone throws a chicken at all of their friends, someone else sends a video, and so on.”

Mankind’s downfall

Humans will love, marry robots by 2050 - “Robots will become so human-like — having intelligent conversations, displaying emotions and responding to human emotions — that they’ll be very much like a new race of people.” Like in the Terminator or the Matrix?

vulnerabilities

Blogged under Technology, Main by Mike on Monday 4 February 2008 at 9:42 am

Pretty much everything related to computers and the tools on them has vulnerabilities. But apparently, Skype, Facebook, and MySpace all have some that are newsworthy. Too bad I use ‘em all!

Downtime not that bad?

Blogged under Technology, Main by Mike on Friday 2 November 2007 at 10:07 am

A NetworkWorld article this week is titled “Network downtime not as severe to users as IT pros think“. Ok, shhhhh! Nobody say that too loud! I just thought it was funny. I suppose that would depend on the industry and/or specific company. I’ve thought before that maybe IT was kinda forcing itself on the corporate world in order to be considered a critical component to business, and it is of course these days, but life and business would go on without it. Or would it? Haha!

Gmail vulnerable

If you use Gmail, log out before you go to any other websites. Otherwise, could spell trouble. Or, you could install the NoScript extension if you use Firefox.

Nerd auction

Blogged under Technology, Main by Mike on Thursday 27 September 2007 at 9:42 am

The largest computer club at Washington State University wants to trade computer skills with sorority girls “in exchange for a makeover and, possibly, a date.” Other hilarious quotes:
–”some of the group’s 213 registered members may not be ready for the auction block”
–”who better to help with that than sorority girls who like nothing better than a makeover” (they’ll love that comment)
–(they have) “spoken to several sororities, but so far none has committed to the project.”

Somebody must’ve just watched Can’t Buy Me Love, Revenge of the Nerds, Weird Science, (do these movies date me or what?) and probably a dozen others just like those. Here’s the article.
