For some reason the football posts are all the only ones I have time for…
Minnesota (6-6) finished last weekend and await a bowl invitation (not holding my breath) - WR Eric Decker is All-conference! Nebraska closed the regular season with a win at Colorado and will play #3 Texas in the Big 12 Championship game. If Nebraska loses, they’ll likely play in the Cotton Bowl; if they beat Texas, then they’ll play in the BCS’s Fiesta Bowl (and TCU would move into the National Championship game!). TCU finished the season undefeated (12-0) for the first time since their 1938 National Championship season and are guaranteed a BCS spot by virtue of a BCS Top 12 ranking. They also won the Mountain West conference title! They are the highest-ranked team this late in the season not in an automatic-bid conference ever (#4). Florida State lost to Florida for the sixth straight time and, while still bowl-eligible (6-6), the bigger news surrounds the future of legendary coach Bobby Bowden. He says he still wants to coach one more year. The latest news is that he discussed two options with FSU officials - one of which was a reduced role on the sidelines (…and the other?) - and will announce tomorrow what he’ll do.
The Vikings-Bears game was the featured 3:00 game yesterday, with Minnesota (10-1) dominating, 36-10, including over 500 yards of offense. Except for two lost fumbles by Adrian Peterson and one long punt runback by Chicago, everything went very smoothly. The defense had two picks and held Chicago to under 50 yards rushing and under 100 receiving. Although….Favre threw 48 passes… He doesn’t need to be throwing that many. FYI, he has thrown two fewer passes this year than at this point last year with the Jets when his “arm fell off.” Like, I said, he doesn’t need to be throwing that many passes…
