Football’s over
…for my teams, anyway. Minnesota was tied with Kansas in the Insight Bowl in Tempe’s Sun Devil Stadium on December 31 but the Jayhawks pulled away to give the Gophers (7-6) their fifth straight loss to end the season. Then Nebraska held off Clemson, despite what the TV announcers seemingly wanted, to win the Gator Bowl the next day. So my college teams finished 3-1 - not too bad. We’ll see what the final rankings are probably this weekend.
Then today my Vikings stuck to the favored (but visiting) Eagles but let it get away in the fourth quarter. So their season’s done in the first round and we’re left to wait for next year. Still, first division title since 2000 and first playoff appearance since ‘04 isn’t much to scoff at! Some key defensive players were out, but the real story to me was a few coaching staff mistakes and special teams issues (last in the league this year). Plus, in my mind, Tarvaris Jackson still goes into the off-season as a question mark as the quarterback of the future. Gus Frerotte can’t be the answer; he’s 38 years old.
