Well, forget all that below about Minnesota football! They missed a 20-yard field goal with three minutes to go and then gave up a interception run back for a touchdown with just 12 seconds left to lose 24-17 to Northwestern. They consequently fell out of the Top 25. Florida State fell just short of a big comeback against Georgia Tech, losing to them for the first time since 1975, and slipped to #22. Oklahoma scored five TDs in the first quarter and rolled over Nebraska with the most points they’ve ever scored on the Huskers. Got one college win though, when TCU crushed UNLV and moved up to #12 in the BCS. They next play #8 Utah in an obviously huge conference game.
Then the Vikings beat the Texans yesterday in Minneapolis to get to 4-4. I have a bit of concern about how the end of the was handled though. We got the ball 1st and Goal on the Texans’ one-foot line with a minute left and chose to kneel down twice to run out the clock and win 28-21. Why not punch the ball in and go up two scores? Coach Brad Childress apparently didn’t want to have disaster strike and have a turnover a la the Gophers above. That’s not playing to win, that’s playing not to lose. C’mon, man, go for the jugular! Still, it was a win.
