Tennis innovations
The ATP Tour (mens pro tennis) will have a few tournaments giving a trial run to some round-robin formats. The three proposals are a 24-player format, where eight groups of three play off for the eight quarterfinal spots with single-elimination from there on; a 32-player format where the top 16 players are automatically entered in the round-robin format and the other 16 play for the remaining eight spots to make a 24-player round-robin like above; and a 48-player format that has 16 groups of three that play off for the 16 bracket positions.
Also, several tournaments will start on Sunday, rather than the traditional Monday, I guess to spread out the apparently tight schedule of matches over seven days. The French Open and I think maybe the US Open did this last year (2006).
Also, Martina Hingis is engaged to this guy.
